mrjack's 2009 Oscar Picks:

I was considering doing a live blog of this event until I realized how gay that was. Plus there's a kabillion other losers out there doing the same thing. I also never watch so I would have to endure that. I do respect the Oscars though. I mean if I want to watch Unforgiven and the woman doesn't I will play the best picture card. Instead I'm going to drink my duty free Canadian Club, light one up and play some online poker. Maybe I'll live blog that.

OK. Here's the picks...

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actor: Sean Penn in Milk
Best Actress: Angelina Jolie in Changling
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight
Best Sup. Actress: Marisa Tomei in The Wrestler
Best Achievement in Directing: Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire
Best Animated Feature: Wall-E
Best Adapted Screenplay: Frost/Nixon
Original Screenplay: Milk
Best Cinematography: The Dark Knight
Best Art Direction: The Dark Night
Best Costume Design: Milk

Best Animated Short: Lavatory - Lovestory
Best Live Action Short: The Pig
Best Achievement in Sound Editing: The Dark Knight
Best Achievement in Sound Mixing: The Dark Knight
Best Achievement in Visual Effects: The Dark Knight

Alright. Although not nominated for Best Picture I see the Academy sending The Dark Knight home with quite a few statues. I also see Benjamin getting shut out.

OK. Best Supporting Actress was just announced. Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. My current score is 0-1. Out.

Milk wins Best Original Screenplay. 1-1. Here we go...

Adapted Screenplay: Slumdog Millionaire. 1-2

Annimated Feature: Wall-E. Back to .500 at 2-2

Short Annimated: La Maison en Petits Cubes. Alright. I have to admit I didn't see everything in this category. 2-3

Best Achievement in Art Direction: Benjamin Button. I guess I was wrong about that shutout. 2-4

Costume Design goes to The Duchess. I picked Milk so make it 2-5.

Make-up is Benjy again. What can I say. Kudos. I guess. 2-6. I don't even know what a good score is in these things. To be honest I was hoping to come in over .600, but it don't look good.

Just to be clear I'm not watching the show. I'm just refreshing IMDB's homepage. I am playing in 3 tourney's on Party Poker.

Best Achievement in Cinematography: Slumdog Millionaire. Fuck. 2-7

Best Short Film, Live Action is Spielzeugland. Again. I was just throwing darts at this category. Missed. 2-8

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger. Nice pick. I mean Jack was good. Really good. But Heath owned that role. The losing streak is halted at 6. 3-8

Best Documentary, Features: Man on Wire. Alright. We're moving in the right direction. 4-8

Best Documentary, Short Subjects: Smile Pinki. I had The Witness - From the Balcony of Room 306. 4-9

Best Achievement in Visual Effects: Benjie. Double digit losses. 4-10

Best Achievement in Sound Editing: The Dark Knight. 5-10. Boom! Haha!

Best Achievement in Sound: Slumdog Millionaire. 5-11

Best Achievement in Editing: Slumdog Millionaire. I'm 5-12. Here's the real standings: Slumdog Millionaire 4, Benjamin Button 3, The Dark Knight 2, and Milk, Wall-E, The Duchess & VCB all with 1.

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score: Slumdog Millionaire. Up to 5 and I'm up to 6-12. Quite respectable in baseball.

Best Original Song: Slumdog Millionaire. That's 6 and counting for them. I drop to 6-13

Best Foreign Language Film of the Year: Okuribito. It's becoming clear to me that you really have to hit a few of these random categories to have a chance at a good score. Nobody has seen all these films. Nobody important anyway. Sinking to 6-14 with 4 categories to go.

OK. We're down to the big boys. The best I can finish is 10-14. The worst is 6-18.

Best Achievement in Directing: Danny Boyl;e for Slumdog Millionaire. 7-14.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role: Kate Winslet in The Reader. 7-15. I'm down $20 in poker.

Best Actor: Sean Penn in Milk. 8-15. The worst I can finish is .300

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire. I took 3 of 4 to finish strong. Final score: 9-15 for a .375 winning percentage batting average.

Final Scores: Slumdog Millionaire 8, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3, The Dark Knight 2, Milk 2, the field 1 or less.

That's it. Peace.
