Caution Jam > Hung
Woke up today feeling as grey as the day which is about right I guess. The woman & I were supposed to walk down to Roncesvailles to get out Christmas tree. I am hoping to postpone this little adventure as I am quite comfortable indoors. Along with a nice pot of coffee I've been accompanied by disc 1 of Dick's Picks Vol. 8 - a nice acoustic set from May of 1970. Young Dead. Good stuff.
My buddy Sameer and I hit up Caution Jam last night at Grossman's Tavern. It's always an adventure. In addition to the usual suspects (the hippies) a pub crawl bus stopped in for the first two sets. In from the suburbs, all dressed in yellow, ready to party in the big city and they somehow find this spot. It couldn't have worked out any better for them if you ask me. "What is this?" I'm asked on the dance floor as together the whole bar is in one groove. "This is the Dead - The Grateful Dead", is my response. "Oh? Really? This is the Grateful Dead? Pretty awesome music."
No shit. Why do you think we're here? Of course to complete the experience the hippies helped the yellows with their stonedness. Haha. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.
I don't write setlists, but this is what I remember from the Dead cannon:
Deep Elem Blues
Bertha
Friend of the Devil
Shakedown Street
Truckin
Mr Charlie
Loose Lucy
Deal
Non-Dead: I Saw Her Standing There, Hwy 61, The Weight, Take Me to the River...a bit hazy. Haha.
We caught a cab back to Sameer's place for some rum & a final shot of Deadness. Sam has a kick ass Bose sound system that I am very jealous of. One day... Being as it was after 3am we were unable to unleash its full potential.
I think I got home between 4-5am. I am sensing a bit of friction from the woman on this front. Time heals all wounds. That's what they say. Just gotta ride it out.
So today looks like a bust. I think I'm going to pop in the new Indiana Jones movie, adjust my state and settle in. I'm inspired to do nothing else. Yesterday I got the laundry and a major vacuum done so I can piss a day away guilt free. I'm having trouble lately getting into football. More than anything I think it's the dreadful state of the Lions. WTF? (That's short for "What the Fuck?") Haha.
I noticed Caution Jam is playing a New Year's show. Not exactly sure what we'll be doing for the big night, but Azure & I will be in Toronto. December is going to fly by. We leave for San Francisco to spend the holidays with Azure's family on the 18th and have to get all our Christmas shopping/wrapping done before then so it's ready for our return to meet up with my side.
Off to Indiana...
